Matz Driving Instructor Training

Matz Driving School delivers instructor training from our purpose built training centre at Central Park, Larbert.



The Trainer

gregor

Chief training officer, Gregor Mathieson is ORDIT Registered (Official Register of Driving Instructor Trainers) and is an NVQ Assessor Level 3 in Driving Instruction. In addition to this, Gregor also is an advanced driver holding the DIA Diamond Advanced Driving Test certificate and the DSA Cardington Special Test for Driving Instructors placing him in the top 2% of drivers in the UK.

Gregor’s drive to deliver quality Instructor training finds him often taking advantage of situations he sees on the road and turning them into training sessions for his own team of instructors. He hold's a monthly training programme for the Matz team, developing their individual skills.

Gregor also trains officers from the emergency services to become instructors as well as delivering additional training to potential and qualified instructors, be it development skills or Check Test Training.


The Course:


There are 3 qualifying exams to sit in order to become an approved driving instructor:

Course Outline

Part 1

This test is of theory and hazard perception.
There are 100 multiple choice questions which are broken into 4 bands, and the hazard perception test comes after the questions are complete.

Full training and all study materials are supplied by the school.

Part 2

This test is of driving ability, you have to drive in a professional and safe manner, making progress. Full training is provided and written progress and feedback is given at the end of each training session.

This test lasts for an hour and covers all road and traffic conditions, you will also be asked to carry out manoeuvres (Turn in the road, Left & Right Reversing round corners, Parallel parking, and a Controlled stop).

Part 3

This is your test of instructional ability; You will be given full training on how to construct and deliver each pre- set test, along with developing individual people skills required to make you an approved driving instructor.

There are 10 pre-set tests which are broken into 2 half-hour sessions, named Phase 1 and Phase 2. Phase 1 is where you will be teaching a pupil a subject for the first time. In Phase 2 you will be teaching a pupil who has some experience, but has issues with certain aspects of a task, or indeed be a full licence holder in need of some help.



Briefing Classes

Briefing classes are held to assist students on part 3 of the qualifying exams and the class is also open to qualified ADI’s wishing to keep up to date with teaching techniques.

It is also open to PDI’s who are training with other schools.

Additional training

Additional training for any part of the qualifying 3 exams is given to anyone, not just students enrolled onto the Matz course.

Check Test Training

Check test training is offered to qualified ADI’s and has been popular with individual ADI’s throughout Stirling, Falkirk and surrounding areas.

Something any conscientious instructor should consider before attending any check test.

In addition to our excellent classroom facilities, we also have in car cameras to record and help you with feedback and further training. A copy of your training can be emailed to you. Working with this and your written progress sheet, you will be able to practice and work on areas requiring development.
