Who we are

Matz has both female and male Instructors covering the Central Belt, all of whom are approved by the DSA (Driving Standards Agency). In order to represent Matz Driver Training, each instructor attends a monthly training and development programme, ensuring they are kept up to date with any changes in the driving test or road safety legislation.

Matz Team

Gregor Chief Training Officer Gregor has been an instructor for 11 years and comes from a background in Sales and Customer Service which he served 14 years. He has brought the valuable skills from his previous career which has made him and Matz Driver Training the leading force in driver training today. Gregor is also ORDIT registered (the official register for Driving Instructor Trainers), is an NVQ Level 3 Assessor in Driving Instruction and is a DIA and DSA Cardington Advanced Driver. Gregor currently drives a Citreon DS3 which is an ideal training car where he trains learners, potential driving instructors, and instructors from the Emergency Services and Driving Instructor Development.

Tim Stevens Instructor Tim has been an Approved Driving Instructor with Matz Driver Training since 2006. Tim loves his job and has a fun and positive approach to driving. Whether it’s your first time driving a car or you are an experienced driver looking for advanced skills, Tim will ensure high quality training and value for money in a friendly, professional atmosphere. Tim’s car is the Volvo C30 R-Design, chosen for its good visibility, comfort and because it both looks and drives like a dream! When Tim is not teaching he likes to ride Enduro motorbikes, snowboarding, surfing or having parties!

Tom Fernie Instructor Tom has been a Driving Instructor for 11 years covering the Forth Valley Area. Tom has experience in teaching from 15 year olds through to the more mature students. Tom’s oldest student was an 83 year old, although she held a licence she hadn’t driven since the war years! Tom is very patient, thorough, dedicated to completing the job and giving value for money. Tom is proud to be a member of the Matz team and being able to give current up-to-date training.

Craig Stewart Instructor Craig is one of two recent additions to the Matz team. He is young, easy going and enjoys a good rapport with his pupils. His best feeling in life was passing his driving test and enabling others to achieve this was his main inspiration in choosing this career path. With a brand new Citroen DS3 Black Edition on order, he has a car to match his personality. In his spare time, Craig enjoys playing amateur football, and socialising with his mates.

Nicola Trowell Instructor Nicola has been an Instructor with Matz for nearly 2 years and thrives on the satisfaction she gets from helping others. Nicola worked in Customer Care for over 14 years and always got job satisfaction from helping others. She chose to become an Instructor for the same reasons – helping others to either learn or develop the skills they already have. She has a really calm and down-to-earth nature – which is ideal for Instructing! Nicola has a Vauxhall Astra which is a great car to learn in. When not teaching, Nicola enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 young girls.
