THEORY PUT INTO PRACTICE

Again, one of the first questions we are asked is how long it will take me to pass. Well, how long is a piece of string. We would love to answer; however, we have a lot of work to do to train someone to become a driver.
We follow a very good structured lesson plan covering all aspects of practical driving which is recorded on our pupil assessment cards. These cards are easily followed so anyone looking at it can see just what subjects have been covered and the pupil’s level of competence on each. Using these cards also ensures that at Matz, we do not just jump in the car and go for a run, we strongly follow the saying “learning must take place” on every lesson. Even if that means developing a skill or a pupil understanding a skill more. We want everyone in 2010 onwards to understand their duty to learn and become a safe driver.
So let’s get down to the nity gritty. MONEY On average according to DSA figures it takes 46 hours of professional training combined with 22hours of private practice. So let’s stick to the 46hours. The cost on average would be £1100.00. Now if you think that you pass at 18 and once passed you can drive until you are 70. That’s 52 years that you can drive without having to do any more training or development. That works out that it costs you £0.05p per day to have leaned a Life Skill. Yet we complain no end as to how much and how long it takes to pass a test. Pass a test??? Shouldn’t we be thinking? It’s an investment in our future, an investment to become a safe driver.
We all have to insure our cars, yet we do not complain too much about paying £1000’s each year, Yes Year for it. Add it up people. Insurance is for a year. A licence is for life. I’ll let you do the maths.
So please let’s make the turn of the decade the turnaround in driver attitude and strive to produce safe drivers.
With our 15+ prep courses, we are starting to teach at an early age that driving is a serious business, but also can be enjoyed if approached with positive attitude towards road safety. It is a great way to introduce driving to anyone wanting to learn early and to those who are a bit nervous to try. It is conducted in a private area and has a structure to help lay the foundations for future safe drivers.
Take a look at the site www.safedrivestayalive.org and perhaps go along to one of their shows to see and listen to families who have been unfortunate to have had a loved one injured or lost. It is totally heart breaking. Let us turn the tables and make 2010 the start of a safe driving campaign through Quality Driver Education.
You know. Allot of the figures show young drivers INVOLVED in accidents, not CAUSING them. It is partly that inexperience that catches them out, the availability to drive more powerful cars. We want to have the opportunity teach and cut down on accidents, to change Driver attitude and help parents and guardians appreciate what it takes to learn to drive on today’s roads.
